Accounting Designations

In this section you will find information regarding the three accounting designations in Canada. Chartered Accountant (CA)

Professional Program

The Core-Knowledge Exam (CKE) is a four-hour, multiple-choice technical exam.

The School of Accountancy. (SOA) is a mandatory three-week, full-time study in June, begins with several months of preparatory self-study.

Uniform Evaluation (UFE)

Passing the UFE together with completing the CA program’s prescribed practical experience requirement, qualifies you as a CA.

Practical Experience

3 years with a CA training office.

Certified General Accountant (CGA)

Professional Applications and Competency Evaluations (PACE):

Foundation Studies, Advanced Studies, and PACE studies.

Professional Applications I – Issues in professional practice

Professional Applications II – Strategic Financial Management

Each level is accompanied by a 4-hour exam.

Practical Experience:

Three years of practical work experience in a relevant position.

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

Entrance exam

SLP Phase I: Development

Practical Experience:

24 months in a qualifying position as a management accountant
